 This technical innovation
was created by an Italian watchmaker who managed to transform
the movement of the hands in his Regulator into an unexpected
dance. After years of study his idea has become reality with
a new system for viewing the passing by of Time. There is something
revolutionary in this novelty. The watch designed by Carlo Ferrara
regards the Face of the watch, namely that portion of space where
we read the hours and minutes and where, in analogical traditional
mechanical watches, we have the perception of the passing by
of time in one portion after another. This is thanks to the motion
of the hands that causes them to however overlap hour after hour.
And how could it be otherwise? The question of how to get out
of these ﾒfixedﾓ appointments, i.e. the continual overlapping
of hands is what led to the innovation presented by Carlo Ferrara
who was in search of something different from anything previously
done. There thus took shape the Regulator where the hour and
minute hands move not only around their own axis but also along
a straight path, and, as planned, never overlap with the exception
of the secondsﾕ hand which has been kept at the centre of the
watch face for safety reasons. Aesthetically speaking, the Regulator
has a classic type of casing with medium sized straps and either
a closed bottom or a ﾒportholeﾓ for seeing its movement. This
watch whose dial comes in different shapes is made of steel or
gold and is also equipped with a classical date calendar and
a magnifying glass. The basic gauge employed is that of an ETA
2892A2 automatic. The unusual movement made by the hands consists
of a surprising type of dance. This is especially seen when,
on activating the crown wheel for the purpose of quickly moving
on the time, we are amazed to see there and then how one hand
rises and the other one descends. All of a sudden the hands rotate
over each other and turn backwards. The one that first rose now
descends and vice-versa.  This system which was
thought up by Carlo Ferrara is based on two parallel watch faces,
the hour one on the right and the minute one on the left. Unlike
the classical models that bear this name, the Regulator is on
a horizontal and not vertical basis. Whilst the device enabling
a dual motion by the spheres is quite complex, in simple terms
one might say that the secret is totally in the two half moon
sectors whose special features consist of having a cog system
on the inside.
The Carlo Ferrara Regulator is
a successful attempt at innovation for the benefit of all those
who desire something different from the usual things.
